Lucknow Super Giants produced a sensational start against Chennai Super Kings, registering their highest-ever powerplay total in the Indian Premier League. LSG stormed to 91/1 in the first six overs, setting the tone for a dominant batting display and putting CSK under immediate pressure.
The standout performer was Josh Inglis, who played a breathtaking knock at the top of the order. Inglis smashed an unbeaten 77 in the powerplay alone, contributing nearly 85 percent of the team's runs in that phase. His innings was marked by clean striking and fearless intent, as he dismantled the CSK bowling attack with remarkable ease.
He raced to a half-century in just 17 balls, taking full advantage of the fielding restrictions. Bowlers like Akeal Hosein
and Mukesh Choudhary struggled to contain the flow of runs, conceding heavily as LSG capitalised on their aggressive approach. Mitchell Marsh provided brief support before being dismissed for 10 by Anshul Kamboj, but the early momentum remained firmly with LSG.
CSK vs LSG: Chennai Pull Things Back With Noor Ahmed
After the explosive start, CSK managed to pull things back during the middle overs. Noor Ahmad made a key impact by dismissing Nicholas Pooran cheaply, while Rishabh Pant struggled to find fluency. The turning point came when Jamie Overton removed Inglis for a brilliant 85 off 33 balls, halting LSG's momentum. Overton struck again soon after to dismiss Pant for 15, and a run-out of Aiden Markram further dented their progress.
Despite the slowdown, Inglis' innings had already made a significant impact. His 77 not out in the powerplay now ranks as the fourth-highest individual score in IPL history during the first six overs, placing him alongside greats like Suresh Raina and Adam Gilchrist. The early blitz ensured LSG built a strong platform, with Inglis emerging as the defining figure in a record-breaking powerplay performance.
