Zara Anand is set to lead a four-member Indian team at the World Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) tournament starting Thursday (February 12).
Joining Zara are Guntas Kaur Sandhu, ranked world No. 545, Ananyaa Sood at 581, and Jia Kataria at 584. This prestigious event is organised by The R&A Royal & Ancient, Scotland, in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC).
The winner of the WAAP tournament gains entry into three major championships: the AIG Women's Open, the Amundi Evian Championship, and The Chevron Championship. Additionally, they will participate in elite events like the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS HANDA Women's Australian Open, The Women's Amateur Championship, and the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Indian Team's Recent Achievements
Zara
Anand has shown impressive form over the past two seasons. She achieved a top-10 finish in last year's Queen Sirikit Cup and was named the best amateur player of that tournament, finishing tied for 15th overall. Her performances have made her a key player in the Indian team.
Guntas Kaur Sandhu has also had a successful domestic season. She secured four victories on the IGU circuit and finished third in the 2025 IGU All India Ladies & Junior Girls Amateur Championship. Her consistent play has been a highlight of her recent career.
Jia Kataria and Ananyaa Sood's Contributions
Jia Kataria, a US Collegiate golf scholar, has been a standout performer with four titles last season. Her victories include the LTU Spring Break Invitational, SSAC Women's Golf Championship, Seahawk Shootout, and Lady Roadrunner Fall Invite. Her achievements underline her potential on the international stage.
Ananyaa Sood has also made significant strides in her golfing career. She won the US Kids United Arab Emirates Championship last year and achieved four top-10 finishes in the UAE. Additionally, she claimed victory in the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour UAE Championship and Tommy Fleetwood International Pathway Series in the UAE.
The WAAP tournament is highly coveted among women amateurs worldwide due to its prestigious invitations to major championships. The Indian team is poised to make a strong impact with their recent accomplishments and dedication to the sport.
