Inter secured a 2-0 victory over Lazio at San Siro, propelling them to the top of Serie A. Lautaro Martinez and Ange-Yoan Bonny were the scorers for Cristian Chivu's team, who controlled the game throughout.
Despite their dominance, Inter was denied a larger margin of victory due to VAR disallowing Piotr Zielinski's goal.
The match began with a bang as Martinez scored within three minutes. He delivered a powerful first-time shot into the top-right corner, taking advantage of Lazio's defensive lapse. Mattia Zaccagni had Lazio’s best chance in the first half but missed the target, while Petar Sucic also failed to convert after Nicolo Barella set him up during a counter-attack.
In the second half, Matteo Guendouzi tested Inter's goalkeeper Yann Sommer with a low shot. However, it was Inter who doubled their lead in the 61st minute. Federico Dimarco provided an assist for Bonny, who easily scored from close range. Shortly after, Inter thought they had scored again through Zielinski, but VAR ruled it out due to Dimarco's handball in the build-up.
Lazio tried to mount a comeback late in the game. Mario Gila came close when his header struck the underside of the bar but did not cross the line. In another attempt, Sommer made an important save against Luca Pellegrini to maintain Inter’s clean sheet.

Statistical Insights and Martinez's Milestone
The match saw both teams having eight shots each. However, Inter had a higher expected goals (xG) value of 1.91 compared to Lazio’s 0.68. Martinez ended his four-game goal drought by scoring against Lazio, bringing his tally against them to seven goals overall. This achievement makes him only the fourth player in Inter’s history to score at least ten goals in seven different Serie A calendar years.
Inter’s win over Lazio not only placed them at the top of Serie A but also highlighted Martinez’s return to form as he continues to be a key player for his team this season.
