Lucas Chevalier’s shoot-out heroics delivered Paris Saint-Germain a fourth straight Trophee des Champions, after a 2-2 draw with Marseille in Kuwait. Chevalier saved two Marseille penalties, and Desire Doue scored the decisive kick. Earlier, Goncalo Ramos struck in the 95th minute, ensuring Thursday’s contest moved to penalties after a frantic finish.
The victory means PSG collect a third trophy of the 2025-26 campaign, following the Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup. Each of those titles has been settled from the spot. Once again, Ramos forced a shoot-out late on, and Chevalier played a central part, both during the match and in the penalties.
During the shoot-out, Ramos converted PSG’s first attempt, setting the tone for the holders. Chevalier
then denied Matt O’Riley and Hamad Traore, swinging the contest firmly towards Luis Enrique’s side. Geronimo Rulli almost kept out efforts from Vitinha and Nuno Mendes, yet could not do enough, and Doue calmly finished the winning penalty.
Chevalier’s role late on was especially important because Marseille had already punished a mistake. In the 74th minute, Chevalier rushed from goal and failed to reach the ball, bringing down Mason Greenwood. Greenwood confidently scored the resulting penalty, and from that moment Marseille controlled most of the remaining normal time.
Before that shift in momentum, PSG looked comfortable. Chevalier first reacted sharply to keep out Leonardo Balerdi’s free header. Thirteen minutes in, Vitinha seized on a poor clearance and slipped a precise pass to Ousmane Dembele, who lifted a clever finish over Rulli. PSG continued to dominate the ball before half-time but did not extend the advantage.
After the interval, Marseille increased the tempo and tested PSG’s defence regularly. Chevalier got down well to push away Igor Paixao’s low shot, then quickly recovered to block Benjamin Pavard’s effort from a tight angle. At the other end, Doue almost produced a spectacular goal, crashing a powerful effort against the post from distance.
PSG late show and penalties decide Trophee des Champions
The match swung again near the end. With three minutes of normal time left, Traore fired a dangerous low cross into the PSG area, and Willian Pacho diverted the ball into Pacho’s own net. Marseille led 2-1 in the 87th minute and looked close to the trophy, having pushed PSG backwards after Greenwood’s equaliser.
Ramos responded deep into stoppage time. Bradley Barcola rose well to win a header, knocking the ball into space inside the box. Ramos reacted faster than the Marseille defence and smashed a clinical finish past Rulli in the 95th minute, extending a run of crucial late goals for the Portugal international with PSG.
Ramos’ record in the final stages remains notable. Six of the last 10 goals for PSG have come in the 90th minute or later. Overall, 12 of 43 goals for the club, or 28%, have arrived in that time period. The forward also scored a last-gasp leveller in the Super Cup, which PSG later won on penalties.
Chevalier’s penalty saves in Kuwait continue a trend for this season. Including the Super Cup, Chevalier has now stopped three shots in shoot-outs across 2025-26. The goalkeeper’s performance against Marseille therefore balanced the earlier error that led to Greenwood’s spot-kick and kept PSG’s trophy run intact.

The underlying numbers reflected a balanced Trophee des Champions meeting between PSG and Marseille. Both teams attempted 17 shots, with six efforts on target each. Marseille finished ahead on expected goals, with 2.02 xG compared with PSG’s 1.8 xG, and may feel frustrated after leading from the 87th minute.
Key match statistics from the Trophee des Champions encounter between PSG and Marseille are shown below.
This Trophee des Champions success confirms PSG’s habit of handling pressure moments, especially from penalties. Marseille matched PSG for long spells and created slightly better chances by xG but still left Kuwait empty-handed. PSG, helped by Chevalier and Ramos again, added another trophy to this season’s collection through composure at decisive moments.
