Rob Edwards has expressed that leading Wolves was always his ultimate goal, despite facing criticism for leaving Middlesbrough after a brief tenure of less than five months. Edwards joined Boro on a three-year
deal in June but departed for Wolves while Boro was second in the Championship. The club will reportedly receive around £3 million in compensation for the former Luton Town manager.
Edwards faces a tough task to prevent Wolves from relegation after their poor start under Vitor Pereira. With only two points from 11 Premier League matches, Wolves risk swapping places with Boro next season. This has led many to question Edwards' decision. However, he explained that he couldn't resist the chance to return to a club where he spent four years as a player and had two coaching stints.
In his initial interview with Wolves' media channels, Edwards shared his excitement about the opportunity. "Jeff talked to me about a reset moment," Edwards stated. "It's an opportunity for us now, and I know we're in a difficult spot, but there are still 27 games to go, so there's an opportunity here for us to do something really special, and that appeals to me. "
Edwards acknowledged the challenges ahead but remains optimistic about maintaining Wolves' Premier League status this season. He emphasised the importance of working hard and focusing on immediate results while also aiming to build long-term identity and connections within the club. "Short-term, that's got to be our aim; we've got to try and find results," he said.
His first match as manager will be against Crystal Palace at Molineux on November 22, followed by a local derby against Aston Villa one week later. Edwards is eager for these upcoming challenges and is determined to make a positive impact at Wolves.

Reflecting on his career path, Edwards mentioned his willingness to take risks and seize opportunities when they arise. "I've always been a risk-taker, and I've always wanted this job," he admitted. He understands the significance of this role and is committed to making the most of it.
The journey ahead may be challenging, but Edwards is ready to tackle it head-on with determination and enthusiasm. His focus remains on securing immediate results while laying the groundwork for future success at Wolves.
