Paik Seung-Ho opened the scoring for Birmingham after intercepting the ball in Watford's half and finding the net. Just before halftime, Gray doubled their lead by converting Jay Stansfield's cross at the far post. Despite Watford's efforts, they couldn't prevent Birmingham from taking control of the match early on.
Watford improved after halftime, with Marc Bola testing Birmingham's goalkeeper James Beadle. Othmane Maamma then scored his first goal for Watford in the 61st minute, reducing the deficit. However, Birmingham managed to hold on to their lead and secure all three points despite Watford's pressure.

This victory marked Birmingham's first win over Watford in eight league encounters and only their second in 13 meetings overall. The Blues narrowly led on expected goals, achieving 1.26 xG compared to Watford's 1.03. At home this season, Birmingham has accumulated 20 points, tying them with Coventry City for the most in the Championship.
Watford remains in 15th place after missing an opportunity to climb into the top half of the table. Their defeat ended a six-match unbeaten streak in league play. Despite their efforts, they couldn't capitalise on chances to improve their standing.
