Tejaswin Shankar etched his name into Indian athletics history by clinching the bronze medal in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games 2026, becoming the first Indian ever to win a medal in the discipline.
The versatile athlete produced a remarkable all-round performance across the ten-event competition, finishing with 7,976 points to secure third place behind Grenada's Lindon Victor (8,096 points) and Canada's Damian Warner (8,036 points).
Shankar remained in medal contention throughout the competition after an impressive opening day. He showcased his versatility by producing strong performances across the board, highlighted by a superb 2.15m clearance in the high jump, the best mark among all competitors, which earned him 944 points and
propelled him into second place after four events.

He clocked 10.96 seconds in the 100m, managed 13.09m in the shot put, and completed the opening day with a 49.51-second run in the 400m to accumulate 4,339 points, staying firmly in the medal race.
