Mumbai Indians' disappointing IPL 2026 campaign has suffered another setback, with Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa both ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injuries.
The franchise confirmed on Tuesday that the duo will miss MI's final two league matches after sustaining separate injuries. While Mumbai have already been eliminated from playoff contention, the absences further weaken a squad hoping to finish a difficult campaign on a positive note.
The franchise added that replacements will be announced in accordance with IPL regulations.
What injury has Quinton de Kock suffered?
De Kock has been ruled out after sustaining a tendon injury to his left wrist ahead of Mumbai Indians' clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The South African wicketkeeper-batter has already returned
home to begin rehabilitation and will not feature in MI's remaining fixtures against Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
While injuries disrupted parts of his campaign, de Kock still produced one of the standout innings of Mumbai's season. The left-hander scored an unbeaten 112 against Punjab Kings and accumulated 132 runs across three innings before being sidelined.
His absence leaves Mumbai without one of their most experienced overseas batters for the final stretch of the tournament.
Raj Angad Bawa also ruled out with thumb injury
Mumbai have also lost all-rounder Raj Angad Bawa after the youngster suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb.
The injury occurred during MI's previous match against Punjab Kings and has forced the Chandigarh-born all-rounder out of the remainder of the season.
Like de Kock, Bawa has returned home to recover from the injury.
The 23-year-old featured in three matches during IPL 2026, matching his appearance tally from the previous season as he continued his gradual integration into Mumbai's senior setup.
How have Mumbai Indians performed in IPL 2026?
The injury news arrives at the end of a campaign that never truly gathered momentum for the five-time champions.
Mumbai Indians have managed just four victories from 12 matches and currently sit ninth in the standings with a net run rate of -0.504. Their playoff hopes were extinguished earlier in the season following a string of inconsistent performances.
Despite being out of contention, Mumbai still have two fixtures remaining and will be keen to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table.
They face Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 20 before returning home to take on Rajasthan Royals in their final game of the season on May 24.
Will Mumbai Indians sign replacements?
Yes. Mumbai Indians confirmed in an official statement that replacement players will be named in line with IPL guidelines.
With only two matches remaining, any replacements are unlikely to significantly alter Mumbai's fortunes this season. However, the franchise could use the opportunity to hand experience to emerging players and assess squad depth ahead of IPL 2027.
For now, though, the immediate focus remains on ending a forgettable season with a pair of strong performances after injuries brought premature ends to the campaigns of both de Kock and Bawa.
