Borussia Dortmund turned a difficult Bundesliga match into a 3-2 home win over Heidenheim, led by a Serhou Guirassy double. Julian Niehues had scored twice for the visitors, yet Niko Kovac’s team recovered
to take all three points. Dortmund are now within six points of leaders Bayern Munich, though Guirassy missed a late chance for a hat-trick.
Guirassy played a central role across the 90 minutes, beyond the two decisive goals. The Guinea international also hit the crossbar in the first half and took two penalties. Guirassy finished the match as Dortmund’s leading threat for shots, expected goals, touches in the box and big chances created.
Heidenheim initially believed they had opened the scoring when Patrick Mainka forced the ball over the line after Gregor Kobel failed to hold a shot. However, the effort was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper. Dortmund then punished that reprieve in the 44th minute, when Waldemar Anton attacked a corner and volleyed in after Diant Ramaj dropped a catch.
The visitors reacted before the half-time whistle, turning the flow of the contest. In the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, Niehues pounced when an acrobatic attempt was blocked, stabbing in from close range. Just three minutes after the interval, Niehues struck again, drilling a powerful long-range shot that left Kobel without any realistic chance.
Dortmund’s response arrived midway through the second half, sparked by a handball decision against Niklas Dorsch. Guirassy stepped up in the 68th minute and converted from 12 yards. Less than 90 seconds later, Dortmund broke quickly, and Guirassy finished a counter-attack from a tight angle on the right to put the hosts 3-2 ahead.
The forward then earned another penalty when Tim Siersleben caught Guirassy inside the area. This time the chance went begging, as Guirassy drove the spot-kick over the bar and into the stands. That miss denied Guirassy a hat-trick but did not alter the result, with Dortmund holding firm during the closing stages.

Borussia Dortmund data debrief and home Bundesliga record
The numbers underlined Guirassy’s importance to Dortmund’s attacking play. The forward scored twice, attempted eight shots and generated 2.17 expected goals. Guirassy also led Dortmund for touches inside the opposition penalty area with 16, and registered four big chances, including the missed late penalty and earlier effort against the crossbar.
Guirassy’s individual expected goals total was close to Heidenheim’s overall figure of 2.26 xG, helped by the two penalties. Dortmund’s win also protected an impressive home record in the Bundesliga this season. The team have eight victories and two draws at Signal Iduna Park and remain the only side yet to suffer a home league defeat.
