India's medal tally at the 2026 AWF Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships received another boost on Day 6 as Sanjana secured bronze in the women's 77kg category in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Competing in front of the home crowd, Sanjana delivered an impressive performance with a combined lift of 220kg, winning bronze medals in Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total to add India's fourth medal of the championship.
Sanjana Secures Podium Finish in Women's 77kg
Sanjana lifted 96kg in Snatch and followed it up with 124kg in Clean & Jerk to finish with a total of 220kg.
China's Guifang Liao dominated the category with a gold medal-winning total of 265kg, while DPR Korea's Kyong Ryong Kim claimed silver with 260kg.
Despite the significant gap at the top, Sanjana's consistent lifts ensured India a place on the podium
in one of the most competitive categories of the championship.
Vanshita Verma Narrowly Misses Medal
India also came close to another podium finish in the women's 86kg category through Vanshita Verma.
Vanshita finished fourth overall with a total lift of 220kg after successfully lifting 95kg in Snatch and 125kg in Clean & Jerk. She narrowly missed out on a medal in a highly competitive field.
China's Cuiting Peng won gold with a total of 270kg, while Bahrain's Alina Marushchak secured silver with 265kg. South Korea's Hyeonju Jang took bronze with 245kg.

India Continue Positive Run at Home Championships
The latest medal continued India's encouraging campaign at the continental event, with Indian lifters increasingly featuring among the podium finishers.
