Sanju Samson grabbed his opportunity with both arms as the India batter continues to bat in immense fashion against South Africa in the 5th T20I in Ahmedabad.
And in doing so, an unfortunate incident took
place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, as one of Sanju's shots took a deflection and hit the umpire at the non-striker's end.
In the 9th over of the match, Donovan Ferreira's delivery was smashed back by Sanju with force. Ferreira managed a hand on that but the ball deflected of the Proteas player and hit the umpire Virender Sharma. The ricochet of the bowler hit the umpire Rohan Pandit's knee, and he went down immediately with pain.
The match had to be halted with the unexpected injury, and both South Africa and India physio attended the umpire. After a brief check and spraying, Pandit has continued officiating as the match has resumed.
Replacing Shubman Gill, Samson has grabbed his opportunity. The Kerala-born bats on 37 in 22 deliveries as India are 97 for 1 at the end of 9 overs. South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bowl first, and India got a fantastic start through Sanju and Abhishek Sharma.
