Oliver Glasner expects Marc Guehi to choose a new Crystal Palace deal, despite strong attention from Liverpool and Manchester City. The England defender’s contract runs out at the end of this season, meaning clubs outside the Premier League can already negotiate terms for a free transfer in the summer.
Speaking after Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday, Glasner played down fears around a possible January exit. Glasner told Sky Sports: "[I’m] no more worried than in the summer, because the summer would’ve been the same. " The current situation repeats previous windows, in Glasner’s view.
Guehi’s contractual position makes the centre-back an attractive target, and Manchester City have joined the chase. City’s interest has grown
since Josko Gvardiol suffered a broken leg against Chelsea on Sunday, creating an injury shortage in defence. Liverpool also tried to sign Guehi during the last transfer window.
Glasner underlined that Crystal Palace will sell only under specific conditions. Glasner said: "If the offer had been high enough that the club was fine with it, and if Marc wanted to go, he wouldn’t be a Crystal Palace player anymore. I think Marc will stay, but if Marc says: ‘I want to leave’, and a club pays massive moneywith five months left of a contractevery player will leave if you’re playing for a club like Crystal Palace. I think last January would’ve been the same, and the year before would be the same. "
Glasner then outlined the club’s wider position in the transfer market, stressing Crystal Palace’s limits. Glasner said: "Every single player has a price where the club will sell him when you’re Crystal Palace, and maybe because we’re not the end of the food chain in football. "
Glasner also felt the recent headlines overstated any change in Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace status. Glasner explained: "For me, it was a little bit surprising what was made out of it, because it’s exactly the same situation as it was in the summer. "

Glasner highlighted Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace commitment in daily work and matches. Glasner said: "Right now, when I see him playing, when I see him training, when I see his commitment and when we are talking quite often together, then I think the fans can be really be calm, but you never know what will happen in football. "
Despite transfer pressure from elite rivals, Crystal Palace and Glasner are preparing for the coming months with Guehi as captain. The club accepts that a huge bid could still change plans, yet current signals from the defender’s performances and attitude point towards a continued role at Selhurst Park.
