Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange says the club are already planning a busy summer, after a limited January Tottenham transfer window left the squad short during a difficult campaign under Thomas Frank, with the team 14th in the Premier League despite progressing directly to the Champions League round of 16.
Spurs have not won in six league matches, with four draws and two defeats, marking a fourth sequence of at least five Premier League games without victory in the last two seasons, compared with only four such winless spells in the 12 campaigns from 2012-13 to 2023-24, while fan protests have added further pressure.
Lange confirmed that Tottenham see the coming off-season as their main chance to reshape the squad, stressing that "The
summer market is where eight or nine out of 10 players move clubs, so we will go into the summer window with big ambitions of strengthening the team. We know there'll be more movements, we know there'll be more opportunities, so the plans are already drawn up. We have a clear picture of which positions and also which profiles [we want]. "
Looking back on the recent Tottenham transfer window, Lange admitted the club wanted to do more business, saying: "Could we have brought one or two more in this January window? We would have been delighted to do so, but that was not a possibility. So, we are looking forward to the summer. "
Tottenham made only two additions in January, bringing in midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for 40m (€35m) and teenage full-back Souza from Santos for 15m (€12.9m), with Lange explaining that injuries had a major impact on their thinking: "When we went into January, we didn't anticipate that we'd have seven injuries during the month of January. So, that, of course, changes things during the course of the window. "
Lange insisted the focus now must stay on performances, stating: "Now, we focus on the rest of the season and that is very, very important as well, because we have big objectives. We're still in the Champions League. We want to, of course, be higher in the Premier League, and then myself and others will have our eyes directed towards the summer window. "
Supporters had voiced frustration during this Tottenham transfer window and throughout Thomas Frank's first season, but Lange's interview on the club website aimed to reassure fans that "big ambitions" remain for squad improvement once the main market opens, with internal plans already prepared for specific roles and profiles across the team structure.

On the pitch, Tottenham visit Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Saturday, entering that match unbeaten in eight meetings against United in all competitions, with five wins and three draws, which is Tottenham's longest run without defeat versus the Old Trafford club and offers a chance to stabilise results before the next Tottenham transfer window dominates discussion again.
