LSG vs RCB: Lucknow Super Giants kept their playoff hopes alive in the Indian Premier League 2026 season with a nine-run victory (DLS method) over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
In a rain-affected contest reduced to 19 overs per side, LSG produced a much-needed all-round performance to halt a six-match losing streak. The win also marked their first successful defence of a total this season, their first victory in seven matches, and their first home win in nine games.
Set a revised DLS target of 213, RCB finished on 203/6 despite a late surge from Tim David, who smashed 40 off 17 balls. With 20 required in the final over, Digvesh Rathi held his nerve, conceding just 10
runs to seal the result.
LSG vs RCB: Mitchell Marsh's Impactful Innings
Earlier, Mitchell Marsh powered LSG to 209/3 with a blistering 111 off 56 balls, earning Player of the Match honours. His innings, laced with nine fours and nine sixes, laid the foundation for a competitive total despite multiple rain interruptions.
Marsh shared a 95-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni (17) and added another 70 runs with Nicholas Pooran (38). Captain Rishabh Pant provided a late flourish, hammering an unbeaten 32 off just 10 deliveries.
RCB's chase was anchored by skipper Rajat Patidar, who scored a brisk 61 off 31 balls. However, regular wickets stalled their momentum. Prince Yadav starred with the ball for LSG, returning figures of 3/33, including the early dismissal of Virat Kohli for a duck.
Shahbaz Ahmed chipped in with two wickets, while Krunal Pandya and Josh Hazlewood picked up a wicket each for RCB earlier in the match.
How Can LSG Qualify For The Playoffs?
Lucknow Super Giants kept their Indian Premier League 2026 playoff hopes alive with a win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but their path remains extremely narrow.
Currently 10th with six points from 10 matches, LSG must win all four remaining league games to reach 14 points. Even a single loss will eliminate them from contention.
However, 14 points may still not be enough in a tightly contested season. Their poor Net Run Rate of -0.934 further complicates matters, requiring big-margin victories. LSG also depend on other results, needing teams like the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and RCB to lose multiple matches. While the recent win offers a lifeline, LSG face a high-pressure finish with no margin for error.
