Lando Norris Stays Focused After Securing Sprint Qualifying Pole Position In Brazil

Lando Norris expressed satisfaction with securing pole position for the sprint race at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Despite this achievement, he remains cautious about getting ahead of himself. Norris finished

just 0.097 seconds ahead of Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, while his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri secured third place in the sprint qualifying, followed by George Russell.

Max Verstappen found himself between Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, who took fourth and sixth places respectively. Charles Leclerc, Isack Hadjar, and Nico Hulkenberg completed the top ten. Although Norris is well-placed to extend his championship lead over Piastri before Sunday's main race, he remains focused on the sprint.

Norris acknowledged the challenges faced during qualifying. "It was a little bit tougher than I would have liked," he said. He noted that Mercedes performed well on soft tyres, making it tricky to balance pushing hard with tyre management. "But we did the job we needed to do, which was to be fastest today," he added.

The weather forecast for Saturday's event predicts heavy rain and strong winds, potentially complicating the race. Despite these conditions, Norris remains focused on performing well. "We'll wait and see what tomorrow's going to do," he stated. He advised everyone to prepare for rain but chose not to worry prematurely.

Norris currently leads Piastri by one point in the championship standings. However, he emphasised that maintaining focus is crucial given the unpredictable weather conditions expected during the sprint race. "It's meant to rain a lot in the morning," Norris mentioned, highlighting the need for readiness.

Reflecting on his performance, Norris admitted feeling less comfortable compared to Mexico but still considered it a positive outcome. "I've not been feeling quite as comfortable, but therefore it's a great result," he said. With more qualifying sessions and races ahead, Norris views this as a promising start.
