Royals, this would have been a day game, while Dhaka Capitals was set to be up against Rangpur Riders in the second game of the day.
But both matches have been cancelled for the day as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced it on Tuesday (December 30).
Why are BPL Matches Called Off Today?
However, both matches have been postponed on the morning today (December 30) following the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at 6:00 AM local time.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a statement canceling the games as a mark of respect during national mourning, citing her contributions to cricket development during her terms in office (1991-1996 and 2001-2006).
"The BCB recalls with gratitude her [Zia's] constant blessings and good wishes for the progress of cricket in this country. During her tenure as Prime Minister, she provided outstanding support for the development of cricket in Bangladesh, significantly contributing to improvements in cricket infrastructure and the sport's growth nationwide. Her vision and encouragement helped pave the way for many of the advancements the game enjoys today," a BCB statement wrote.
"In respect of the nation's mourning and in honour of Begum Khaleda Zia's legacy, the BCB announces that today's scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches have been cancelled and will be rescheduled. Further details on the revised fixtures will be communicated in due course," it added.
When will BPL matches resume?
The Bangladesh Premier League matches are expected to go as planned from Wednesday (December 31), but nothing has been confirmed yet. Zia's political party BNP has already called for a national mourning for 7 days, and it is to be seen if the cricket matches also take a hiatus amid the sad incident.
