Steven Gerrard, the former captain of Liverpool, has advised Mohamed Salah to reconsider his recent remarks about the club. Salah expressed feeling betrayed after being benched during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds United. He also mentioned having no rapport with Arne Slot, leading to his exclusion from the squad for a Champions League match against Inter, which Liverpool won with a late penalty by Dominik Szoboszlai.
Gerrard compared Salah's situation to Luis Suarez's past conflict with Brendan Rodgers in 2013. "I've seen this and I've lived it with Suarez when he fell out with Brendan face to face. I've been there and done it myself," Gerrard shared with TNT Sports. He believes Salah should address his issues directly with the manager rather
than airing grievances publicly.
Salah is expected to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations following Liverpool's Premier League match against Brighton. Meanwhile, speculation suggests Saudi Pro League teams might pursue Salah if he decides to leave Merseyside in January. Despite these rumours, Slot hasn't ruled out Salah's return to the team.
Gerrard emphasised the need for Virgil van Dijk and others to mediate for the fans' benefit. "This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, 'How are we sorting this out for the benefit of not the club, or the team, but the fans?'" he stated. Gerrard acknowledged that players sometimes act emotionally but stressed that resolving such issues is crucial for team harmony.
He further noted that emotional reactions are common among players but expects Salah will eventually reflect on his words. "We've all had head losses as players. We've all done emotional things," Gerrard said, adding that once emotions settle, Salah might regret his statements.
The Role of Key Players
Gerrard highlighted Salah's importance to Liverpool, stating that his return to form is vital for the team's success. "Liverpool football club needs Mo Salah back playing well, back scoring goals because he is the best player, the best scorer and he will help them get out of this," he remarked.

If unresolved, Gerrard warned that this issue could escalate beyond current perceptions. "If this goes on this is bigger than what we all know and what we see," he cautioned. The situation underscores how critical it is for key players like Salah to maintain their focus and contribute positively to their teams.
