Idrissa Gueye believes Iliman Ndiaye has the potential to become the second African player to win the Ballon d'Or. Ndiaye, who joined Everton from Marseille for the 2024-25 season, has been a standout
performer. The Senegalese forward has netted 13 Premier League goals and contributed an assist, showcasing his skills on the field.
Ndiaye's dribbling prowess is evident, with only Jeremy Doku and Mohammed Kudus completing more dribbles than his 95 since last season began. Additionally, he ranks 14th in duels won with 252. This season, Ndiaye is among three Everton players excelling in expected assists (xA), alongside Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Gueye is confident in Ndiaye's abilities, drawing parallels to George Weah's achievements. "I challenge [Ndiaye] every game," Gueye shared with Everton's media channels. "He's a good boy, he listens a lot. " Gueye believes Ndiaye hasn't yet reached his full potential at Everton and sees immense quality in him during training sessions.
Ndiaye's impressive start includes four league goals this season, highlighted by a solo goal against Sunderland on November 3. Only Grealish and Gueye have participated in more open-play shot-ending sequences than Ndiaye's 37 for Everton this term.
Both Gueye and Ndiaye will be absent for up to a month starting mid-December as they join Senegal for the Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal enters the tournament as pre-tournament favourites, adding excitement to their campaign.
Gueye encourages Ndiaye to believe in himself and maintain high expectations. "He just needs to believe in himself," Gueye stated. He praised Ndiaye's unique combination of quality, technique, and skills, which he finds unmatched.
Ndiaye's Humble Nature
Ndiaye is known for his humility and friendly nature. "He's not shy; he likes to play and joke with everyone," Gueye noted. His humble attitude contributes positively to team dynamics at Everton.
The future looks promising for Ndiaye as he continues to impress on the field. With guidance from teammates like Gueye, he aims to achieve great success both at club level and internationally with Senegal.
