The ITF W35 Tumakuru Open began with Justina Mikulskyte of Lithuania named top seed. Mikulskyte was drawn to face India's Saumya Vij in the first round. The main draw ceremony took place on Monday in Tumakuru. Dr. G. Parameshwara and Ms. Subha Kalyan attended the event.
The seedings also placed Poland's Zuzanna Pawlikowska second. India held two of the top four spots. Vaidehee Chaudhari was seeded third, while Zeel Desai was seeded fourth. Vaidehee was drawn against Tumakuru player Soha Sadiq. Zeel was set to play lucky loser Jeetesh Kumar.
The top eight included fifth seed Elina Nepliy and sixth seed Ekaterina Yashina. Japan's Michika Ozeki entered as seventh seed. India's Akanksha Nitture completed the seeded list in eighth. Organisers also
awarded main draw wildcards to Amodhini Naik, Pooja Ingle, Harshini Nagaraj, and Jennifer Luikham.
Shruthi Ahlawat arrived after winning an ITF title in Delhi on Sunday. The win came at a W15 event and was Shruthi's first title. Shruthi reached Tumakuru with that result behind her. Shruthi was expected to test the field in the higher-grade tournament.
Qualifying produced a boost for the home crowd as Snigdha Kanta reached the main draw. Snigdha faced fourth seed Vanshita Pathania in the last round. Snigdha took the first set 6-2 after controlling early rallies. Pathania then retired with a swollen foot, sending Snigdha through.
Top seed Laxmisiri Dandu also advanced from qualifying with a straight-sets win. Laxmisiri beat Shreeniti Chowdhury 6-3, 6-2. Second seed Bela Tamhankar also moved into the main draw. Bela defeated Lakshmi Gowda 6-4, 6-3 in the final round.
Two more qualifiers needed match tie-break comebacks to progress. Danica Fernando beat seventh seed Sahira Singh 5-7, 6-0, 10-6. Eighth seed Sreemanya Reddy Anugonda recovered after losing the first set. Sreemanya won 0-6, 6-4, 10-4 against Saily Prashantkumar Thakkar.
