With an eye on prolonging his ODI career, Rohit Sharma will take the field for India in the 1st ODI against South Africa on Sunday (November 30).
The first of the three-match ODI series takes place at the JSCA
Stadium in Ranchi, and Rohit is set to lead the batting up top.
The India veteran has been boasting decent form with the bat, as he showcased immense class down under against Australia, scoring a fifty and a century last month. As India look to solidify their limited overs credentials on the back of a dismal outing, the stalwarts such as Rohit and Virat are expected to play a key role.
After the Australia series, Rohit took part in fitness in Mumbai and has been looking a lot fitter, after losing significant amount of bodyweight. With Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer out injured, the responsibility will fall on Rohit and Kohli as the old warhorses look to stamp their authority against the Proteas.
For Rohit, the Ranchi encounter can be a cause for personal milestone celebration as well. The India star is on the verge of creating four prestigious records, which all can arrive in the 1st ODI itself. Here are those 4 records which he can achieve in the match-
1 Six to 350
Rohit Sharma just requires one six to get to 350 sixes in the ODIs, the first Indian to reach this milestone.
3 Sixes to ODI Record
Rohit Sharma can also become the highest six hitter in the history of ODI cricket if he clears the boundary thrice in Ranchi. Currently, Rohit has hit 349 ODI sixes, just two behind Pakistan's Shahid Afridi at 351, who holds the record at present.
8 Sixes to 650 in International Cricket
If Rohit Sharma goes berserk and clears the boundary 8 times, he will become the first in the history of international cricket to hit 650 sixes across all formats of the game.
98 runs to 20,000 International Runs
Rohit Sharma requires 98 runs to get past 20,000 international runs. The India veteran will join Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid if he is able to reach that landmark.
