Cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara's brother-in-law, Jeet Rasikbhai Pabari, committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Rajkot on Wednesday (November 26).
The sudden news has come as a shocker to
many as Pabari's extreme step has created many questions. Pujara, at the time of the incident, was in commentary duties for the India vs South Africa Test match.
Why has Jeet Pabari committed Suicide?
This tragic event has deeply saddened Pujara's family and the cricket community. The suicide is believed to be linked to a disturbing legal case: a year earlier, on the exact same date, November 26, 2024, Jeet's ex-fiancee filed a rape complaint against him. It's not evident if that allegation led to Pabari's suicide, and the police have already started an investigation.
She accused him of forcibly engaging in physical relations after promising marriage and later breaking off the engagement. Jeet was reportedly under intense mental pressure due to the ongoing case, which may have contributed to his decision to end his life.
As per reports, Jeet's attempted suicide was after he hung himself at his own home in Rajkot. The neighbours rushed to the scene after a sound and despite taking him to the hospital, the doctors pronounced him dead.
The Malviyanagar police have initiated an investigation into the matter, including the reasons behind the suicide. This incident has left Cheteshwar Pujara's wife, Pooja Pujara, and their family in deep grief. MyKhel approached the police station for comment, but repeated attempts remained unresponsive.
Cheteshwar, a stalwart of Indian cricket, especially in Tests, married Puja Pabari on February 13, 2013, in Rajkot. Their marriage was arranged through family connections, and the couple has shared a strong bond, supporting each other through all life's ups and downs. Puja is an author and entrepreneur who describes herself as Pujara's quiet support system and wrote a book recently on being Cheteshwar's wife.
