Napoli moved to within one point of Serie A leaders AC Milan after a controlled 2-0 victory over Lazio at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, extending a run of four straight wins in all competitions while keeping
a clean sheet in each of those matches.
Antonio Conte’s team faced nine-man Lazio by full-time, managed the closing stages with little alarm, and restricted the hosts to no shots on target, underlining Napoli’s defensive control as the reigning champions kept pace in the title race.
The breakthrough arrived early when Matteo Politano delivered a precise cross from the right on 13 minutes, allowing Leonardo Spinazzola to volley past the goalkeeper, and the same provider then supplied a dangerous free-kick on 32 minutes that Amir Rrahmani headed in for Napoli’s second goal.
Before the interval Eljif Elmas struck the woodwork with a powerful effort, then later headed wide from a clear chance, while Lazio’s best opening came late when Mateo Guendouzi met a cross and directed a header against the crossbar, with Napoli otherwise remaining largely untested.
The final quarter-hour turned chaotic as Tijjani Noslin received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Alessandro Buongiorno, before tempers flared in another incident that saw Adam Marusic and Pasquale Mazzocchi both shown red cards, leaving Lazio with nine players and Napoli also reduced to ten.
Lazio entered the match unbeaten in 12 league meetings against Napoli, but Maurizio Sarri, who suffered his first Serie A defeat to Conte, saw the hosts create very little, registering only five attempts worth 0.36 expected goals, compared with Napoli’s 14 shots generating 1.68 expected goals.
| Team | Shots | xG | Red cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lazio | 5 | 0.36 | 2 |
| Napoli | 14 | 1.68 | 1 |
Politano produced a standout display, leading the match with three chances created and directly assisting both goals, while the win meant Napoli recorded four consecutive victories with clean sheets in all competitions for the first time this season, matching a similar streak achieved between April and May 2025.
