Bayern Munich visit Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg with Harry Kane in record form and Vincent Kompany banned from the touchline, as the German club aim to extend a dominant run against the French champions at the Parc des Princes.
Kane already has 12 goals in this Champions League campaign, the highest single-season total by any English player in European Cup or Champions League history. The striker has scored in four straight knockout matches and can match Robert Lewandowski’s Bayern record of five, set between 2016 and 2018.
Kompany will watch from the stands on 28 April 2026 after receiving three yellow cards in this Champions League season. Assistant Aaron Danks will run the team against the European holders.
Kompany said: "Danksy has plenty of experience, was on the touchline for a while in England".
The Bayern head coach also stressed complete belief in the backroom group supporting Danks during the semi-final. Kompany said: "I've got 100% confidence in the staff and everyone else. " Bayern’s players are also aware of the absence, with Kane explaining the emotional effect on the squad.
Kane said: "We'll miss him on the touchline. He's our boss, a coach who'd love to be out there with us. " Bayern have relied heavily on Kane’s goals in Europe this season, and another decisive display in Paris would strengthen their prospects for the return leg in Munich.
Kompany has beaten PSG in both previous Champions League meetings as a manager, by 1-0 in November 2024 and 2-1 in November 2025. Another victory would give Kompany three wins against Luis Enrique in this competition, more than any other coach has managed.
Bayern’s recent record against PSG in Europe is strong. The German side have won five successive Champions League matches against PSG, including a 2-1 success last November. No other club has put together a longer winning run versus PSG in any major European competition than this sequence of five.
With Kane chasing records and Kompany seeking another tactical win over Luis Enrique, Bayern arrive in Paris with confidence despite the touchline ban.Mood for this week. pic.twitter.com/zUi7SnnJvUFC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) April 27, 2026
