Massimiliano Allegri was satisfied but still demanding after AC Milan beat Verona 3-0 in Serie A, a result that kept Inter and Napoli under pressure in the Scudetto race and highlighted Christopher Nkunku’s
long-awaited breakthrough in Italy’s top division.
The win arrived on the same day Napoli also collected three points, which means Inter faced added pressure ahead of the late game against Atalanta. Allegri stressed that Milan’s main task remains steady consistency while chasing the Serie A leaders in the tight Scudetto battle.
Assessing the wider Serie A picture, Allegri outlined what might be needed for the Scudetto. Allegri said: "At the moment, it looks like the Scudetto will be won on somewhere between 82 and 84 points. It could become 86 if a team has a good run, I dont know. "
Allegri underlined the importance of not slipping at San Siro against sides lower in Serie A. Allegri said: "For us, it was important to win today and against a frustrating team who have a lot of speed. We finally beat a smaller side at home. "
Nkunku’s display was central to that outcome in the Scudetto chase. The forward, signed from Chelsea in the summer, struck twice after half-time against Verona, finally opening a Serie A account for AC Milan and showing a sharp penalty finish followed by a close-range goal.
Serie A Scudetto hopes boosted by Nkunku and Pulisic
The penalty came in the 48th minute, and Nkunku quickly added another from inside the box. Earlier, Christian Pulisic had broken the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, giving Milan control of the Serie A contest and supporting their Scudetto ambitions.
Allegri praised Nkunku’s attitude while insisting there is more to come from the forward in Serie A. Allegri told DAZN: "Hes a good guy who wants to do well, He broke his duck today and then after the penalty, scored a goal that was in his DNA. I think he can continue to improve like everyone else. "
Nkunku had not scored more than once in a league match since May 2023, when RB Leipzig faced Schalke in the Bundesliga. The last time Nkunku netted multiple goals in any competition came in November 2024, against Noah in the Conference League, so this Serie A brace felt significant.
Serie A Scudetto context and Christian Pulisic impact
Pulisic’s influence on Milan’s Serie A campaign also remained clear in the Verona win. The United States international again contributed in the final third, adding to a record that has made Pulisic one of the most productive players in the division during the current Scudetto race.
50 - Since his debut in #SerieA (2023/24) Christian #Pulisic is only one of the two players to have been directly involved in at least 50 goals in the top-flight (31 goals, 19 assists for him), along with Lautaro Martnez (53). The 3-0 result over Verona therefore strengthened Milan’s Serie A position, maintained pressure on Inter and Napoli in the Scudetto contest, and suggested Nkunku and Pulisic can share more attacking responsibility in the coming weeks if Milan are to stay in touch.
