Is the long-standing Ice finally melting between the neighbours? The current reports say so as India and Pakistan are likely to find a way to resolve the Asia Cup Trophy fiasco.
As per reports, the Board
of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia had a talk with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi after ICC's helping hand, where the two had constructive talks to find a middle ground and end the saga.
The Indian team were denied their rightful Asia Cup trophy after beating the final after the players refused to receive from Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president. The India players were left stranded in Dubai as Naqvi and his troops took the trophy to the ACC headquarters and locked it.
In the last month or so, India and Pakistan have both been in war of words regarding the trophy and BCCI secretary Saikia also vowed to raise the matter with ICC. As per reports, the distance between the two boards have significantly reduced as the two representatives held amicable talks.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta played a key role to create a favourable atmosphere as the two officials discussed the matter, which may lead to India getting the Asia Cup trophy soon.
"I was part of both the informal and formal meetings of the ICC, which were also attended by PCB Chairperson Mohsin Naqvi. Although the matter wasn't listed on the formal agenda, the ICC facilitated a separate meeting between the PCB chief and myself, in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official," Saikia was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Saturday.
When will India receive Asia Cup Trophy?
Although no such definitive date has been provided yet, the Indian team will likely receive their deserved Asia Cup trophy soon. The PCB chief is likely to order it to hand it over to the Indian team, and it may arrive in the country within this month.
