Punjab Kings have come out strongly to dispel growing speculation about their star left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, confirming he is fully fit and in good rhythm as the team heads into the business end of IPL 2026.
In an official statement released on May 18, the franchise addressed recent reports suggesting fitness concerns and inconsistent performances.
The statement reads: "Contrary to reports, we would like to confirm that our leading fast bowler and highest wicket-taker, Arshdeep Singh, is fully fit and has been actively training with the squad. The team management is absolutely pleased with his progress, and he is raring to go as we head into a crucial contest of the tournament. His energy, rhythm, and commitment in the nets have been extremely
encouraging, and we are confident that he will continue to play a key role for Punjab Kings moving forward as well. "
The reassurance comes after widespread discussion about Arshdeep's dip in form this season. He has been PBKS's highest wicket-taker but has leaked runs at a higher economy rate than usual, struggling at times with pace, yorkers, and bouncers in key moments. This has been noticeable compared to his sharp performances in international cricket earlier in the year.
Team officials had earlier indicated that physical restrictions in his body may have affected consistency throughout much of the tournament. They noted positive progress in recent weeks, with Arshdeep feeling significantly better physically and showing improved output in training.
Beyond on-field issues, Arshdeep has faced off-field scrutiny. A viral video featuring a remark about Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma sparked accusations of poor taste, while a sharp social media response to a critical fan drew further backlash. These incidents added to the noise around both the player and the team's fluctuating campaign.
Despite the challenges, PBKS emphasised Arshdeep's strong attitude and commitment in the dressing room. As one of the league's proven death bowlers and a key figure in India's recent successes, he remains central to the side's plans.
The India pacer has been moderate so far for the Kings in the IPL 2026 season, with 14 wickets to his name in 13 matches. The Shreyas Iyer-led team had a stellar start to the season with six wins and a seven-match unbeaten streak in the first half, but have faltered terribly with six defeats in a row.
