Nottingham Forest dismissed Sean Dyche late on Wednesday night after a goalless home draw against Wolves, despite creating a huge number of chances. The Premier League club are already searching for a fourth head coach this season, with early speculation centring on former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira as a possible replacement.
The 0-0 result against Wolves continued a poor recent run that has dragged Nottingham Forest back towards the relegation battle. Forest sit 17th in the Premier League table, holding a three-point cushion over West Ham, and pressure around results and performances has grown across recent weeks.
Forest’s performance against Wolves stood out for wasteful finishing rather than lack of control. Nottingham Forest produced 35
shots, with 10 efforts on target, yet failed to score. According to Opta, it was the highest total of attempts without a goal in a Premier League match since Manchester United’s 38 shots in a 0-0 draw against Burnley in October 2016.
Nottingham Forest also dominated the ball under Sean Dyche against Wolves, recording 62.9% possession at the City Ground. It was the 10th Premier League fixture in which a team managed by Dyche had at least 60% of possession. None of those matches ended in victory for a Dyche side.
Forest confirmed Sean Dyche’s departure around three hours after the final whistle, ending a tenure that began in October when Dyche replaced Ange Postecoglou. Dyche collected some eye-catching results, including a 3-0 victory at Anfield, yet Forest have won only three of their last 10 games in all competitions.
The club’s frequent changes in the dugout continue, with Nottingham Forest having now parted company with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche during the same season. Dyche leaves with a Premier League win rate of 33.3% at Forest, averaging 1.2 points per game across his spell in charge.
The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt, Dyche had told reporters after the Wolves game, when asked if he feared Evangelos Marinakis would sack him. If anyone chooses to change in football now, that's their decision. We've all seen it. People can demand change, and then it's always whether they change or not. I just work very hard. I care about this club. I've made that clear. I'm working very hard.
If the owner wants to make a change, then that's up to him, and that's the way football is now, that's just the reality of it. But I'm not questioning the owner here. He's been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I've been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way. Owners are owners. They don't warm you up, it just comes, if that's the way it goes. I'm a realist. I understand the noise here has changed significantly since the last few games. And that's the only thing I'm frustrated about as it's not a terrible run. But that's still the modern way football is. Demand is high.Demand is getting higher and higher and higher and higher. Expectation immediately grows, expectation grows. So if people will change it, and the owner wants to change, that is entirely up to him, but there's no lack of respect for me to the owner on how he's been. He's been first class for me since I've been here. And if he wants to make change, that is entirely up to him and if the fans want to change, that's entirely up to them. All I do is work very, very hard at a club that I care about.

Reports emerging on Thursday link Nottingham Forest with Vitor Pereira, who previously coached Wolves, as the club assess options. Any new appointment must prepare quickly, with Forest due to face Fenerbahce on February 19 in the Europa League, while also trying to secure Premier League safety.
Nottingham Forest now move on from Sean Dyche after a short yet eventful spell marked by tactical shifts, notable wins and a late downturn in form. With three head coaches already dismissed this season, the next decision from Evangelos Marinakis is likely to shape Forest’s survival hopes and European campaign.
