Paris Saint-Germain slipped to only their third Ligue 1 loss of the campaign as Rennes, playing under interim coach Sebastien Tambouret, claimed a 3-1 victory at Roazhon Park. The result arrived days after Rennes dismissed Habib Beye, and it leaves Luis Enrique’s side vulnerable in a tense title race.
Despite the defeat, PSG created enough chances to take something from the match. They produced an expected goals figure of 3.62 from 22 attempts, compared to Rennes’ xG of 1.36 from 13 shots. The setback could prove costly, as Lens can reclaim first place when Lens face Paris FC on Saturday.
PSG began with control and early pressure, yet Rennes struck first after 34 minutes. Mousa Al-Tamari isolated Willian Pacho on the right, shifted infield, then
drilled a precise low shot into the bottom-left corner. Before half-time, Joao Neves met a cross from Nuno Mendes, but the glancing header drifted narrowly wide.
Rennes nearly doubled the lead straight after the restart. Illia Zabarnyi miscontrolled the ball just 45 seconds into the second period, allowing Arnaud Nordin a clear run through. Pacho recovered enough to pressure the forward, and Nordin dragged the finish off target, letting PSG escape that moment.
The home side extended the advantage in the 69th minute from a set piece. Esteban Lepaul climbed above the PSG defence to meet Sebastian Szymanski’s swinging corner, powering a forceful header past Brice Samba. Two minutes later, Nuno Mendes saw a cross deflect into the area, and Ousmane Dembele flicked the ball beyond Samba to reduce the deficit.
Dembele’s strike brought up a personal landmark, reaching 50 combined goals and assists for PSG in Ligue 1. The Ballon d’Or winner also led the match for attempts and deliveries, finishing with four shots and seven crosses. Even so, PSG could not convert those numbers into points against well-organised Rennes.
Rennes then finished the job inside the final ten minutes. Breel Embolo, introduced from the bench, linked neatly with fellow substitute Ludovic Blas before chesting the ball into the net nine minutes from time. That third goal secured Rennes’ first league victory since 3 January and ended a six-game winless run against PSG.
The key match statistics for Rennes and PSG in this Ligue 1 meeting are shown below, underlining how clinical Rennes were against Luis Enrique’s side despite PSG’s territorial and attacking dominance across the ninety minutes.

This result shifts pressure onto PSG before Lens play Paris FC, while Rennes gain renewed momentum under Sebastien Tambouret. The defending champions still hold strong attacking numbers, highlighted by Dembele’s milestone performance, yet Rennes’ efficiency and resilience delivered a significant statement within the current Ligue 1 campaign.
