The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 matches remain cancelled on Wednesday. This follows the postponement of Tuesday's double-header at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, where Sylhet Titans
were set to face Chattogram Royals in a day game, followed by Dhaka Capitals against Rangpur Riders.
Originally, there was no match scheduled for Wednesday, but the Tuesday matches were likely to be played today. But as the nation mourns Zia's passing, the matches are likely not to take place immediately.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) initially announced the cancellation of those December 30 games on Tuesday morning, hours after the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at 6:00 AM local time. Now, extending the mark of respect, the BCB has confirmed no play on Wednesday either, aligning with calls from Zia's political party, BNP, for a seven-day national mourning period.
BCB's Tribute and Infrastructure Legacy
In its statement, the BCB paid homage to Zia's pivotal role in cricket's growth during her tenures as Prime Minister (1991-1996 and 2001-2006). "The BCB recalls with gratitude her constant blessings and good wishes for the progress of cricket in this country," the board noted. It highlighted her "outstanding support for the development of cricket in Bangladesh, significantly contributing to improvements in cricket infrastructure and the sport's growth nationwide. Her vision and encouragement helped pave the way for many of the advancements the game enjoys today. "
The statement concluded: "In respect of the nation's mourning and in honour of Begum Khaleda Zia's legacy, the BCB announces that today's scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches have been cancelled and will be rescheduled. Further details on the revised fixtures will be communicated in due course. "
When will Bangladesh Premier League Resume?
While BPL matches were tentatively expected to resume on Thursday, the extended mourning may have pushed that timeline back. With BNP demanding seven days of national observance, fans await official word on when the league will restart. On Thursday (January 1, 2026) - there are two matches scheduled in Sylhet. It is not known yet if those matches will take place.
