Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will not be leaving Arsenal in January. Jesus recently returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January during an FA Cup match against
Manchester United. He made a notable comeback in Arsenal's Champions League victory over Club Brugge, creating a chance and taking three shots, one hitting the crossbar.
Arsenal are set to face Wolves in their next Premier League fixture. They aim to recover from their recent defeat to Aston Villa. Although Jesus might not start against Wolves, Arteta insists the 28-year-old should strive for a starting position. "No, I don't consider that and especially with the situation we have right now," Arteta stated when asked about selling Jesus in January.
Arteta expressed confidence in Jesus' abilities, highlighting his immediate impact upon returning to play. "I think Gabby has a lot to offer to the team and he is proving that straight away in the first minutes that he was available to play," Arteta said. He emphasised the importance of Jesus' energy and contribution to the team.
Arsenal have enjoyed success against Wolves, winning their last eight Premier League encounters. This marks their longest winning streak against any opponent since defeating Burnley ten times between 2010 and 2019. The upcoming match will be the 42nd Premier League meeting between the top and bottom teams, with league leaders winning 30 of the previous 41 matches.
Despite Wolves being at the bottom of the table, Arteta remains cautious about underestimating them. He warned his players against complacency at Emirates Stadium. "By understanding that a team in that position has to react and show their teeth," Arteta noted when discussing how to prepare for Wolves.
Wolves have previously caused upsets as a bottom side, securing victories over Manchester United at Molineux in both January 2004 and February 2011. Arteta stressed that every team possesses quality, making it crucial for Arsenal to remain vigilant.
The focus remains on integrating Jesus back into the squad effectively while maintaining their strong performance record against Wolves. Arsenal's determination is evident as they seek to continue their winning streak and secure valuable points in the league standings.
