The old adage "old is gold" holds true - much like "health is wealth. " How else do you explain Bhuvneshwar Kumar? The way he has been bowling in the ongoing IPL 2026, he looks like one of the standout performers of the tournament so far.
"Bhuvi," as he is fondly known, is arguably among the finest T20 fast bowlers in the competition right now, purely on current form. And this isn't a claim coming from his PR machinery, his manager Amitesh Shah of Legaxy, or even his childhood coach Sanjay Rastogi - it's his relentless consistency and match-defining spells that are doing all the talking.
"Bhuvi is enjoying this success because of the hard work he has put in over the years. He went through a difficult phase with injuries, but he fought back strongly
and worked tirelessly on his fitness to bowl the way he is bowling now," Meerut-based coach Sanjay told myKhel.
"He has a fitness trainer who travels with him, and that in itself reflects his commitment to the sport," the coach added.
So what if Bhuvneshwar Kumar is no longer a preferred pick for the selectors because of his age? His motivation remains undiminished. "He was one of MS Dhoni's go-to bowlers in the Indian team, and that itself shows how special he is," Amitesh said while adding that Bhuvneshwar's domestic performances have been equally good over the years.
That is precisely why an emerging talent like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would do well to think twice before taking on Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He isn't just good, he remains one of the finest in the business.
The M Chinnaswamy crowd on Saturday witnessed a reminder of Bhuvneshwar's 'damdar' bowling against the Delhi Capitals - a performance that took many back to his debut T20 outing against Pakistan, when he captivated the nation with his lethal swing bowling. The class of Bhuvi was in display in the powerplay, while he also bowled a few excellent yorkers in the latter overs, cramping up the batters.
