Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has been reprimanded for an IPL Code of Conduct breach during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, where Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 65 runs. Abhishek Sharma received a 25 per cent fine on match fees and one demerit point after accepting the decision.
The Indian Premier League Governing Council, operating under the Board of Control for Cricket in India, confirmed the sanction after reviewing Abhishek Sharma's conduct. The opening batter admitted guilt for a Level 1 offence under the IPL Code of Conduct and did not contest the charge, which allowed the Match Referee to impose an immediate penalty.

While Abhishek Sharma impressed with the bat, the all-rounder faced action for behaviour
on the field. Abhishek Sharma scored 48 runs from 21 balls, with four fours and four sixes, and helped Sunrisers Hyderabad seize early control. However, officials noted the use of audible obscenities, which falls under Article 2.3 of the IPL regulations.
In its official release, the IPL stated: "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding. "
What Does The Penalty Mean For Abhishek Sharma?
The punishment means Abhishek Sharma forfeits a quarter of earnings from the fixture and carries a demerit point on record. Level 1 violations are considered the mildest category under IPL rules, yet repeated offences can trigger harsher measures. Future breaches could lead to heavier fines or even match suspensions, depending on the tally of demerit points.
Despite the disciplinary issue, Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a strong performance with the bat at Eden Gardens. After being asked to bat first, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma launched a rapid opening partnership worth 82 runs from only 34 balls. Travis Head made 46, while Heinrich Klaasen added a fluent 52 and Nitish Kumar Reddy struck 39 for a total of 226 for 8.

Kolkata Knight Riders faltered in the chase and were bowled out for 161 in 16 overs, giving Sunrisers Hyderabad a 65-run victory.
