Lakshya Sen capped a resurgent 2025 season by winning the Sathio Australian Open Men's Singles title with a commanding 21-15, 21-11 victory over Japan's unseeded Yushi Tanaka in a 38-minute final.
This
triumph marked Sen's first title of the year and his first BWF World Tour trophy since the Syed Modi International in late 2024. It is also his first Super 500 title since the Canada Open in 2023, signaling an important breakthrough after months of steady rebuilding in his game.
Sen's tournament journey at Sydney was impressive, starting with wins over Chinese Taipei's Su Li-yang and Chi Yu-jen, followed by a quarterfinal win against compatriot Ayush Shetty. His standout moment came in the semifinals when he produced a spirited comeback to defeat world No. 6 and third seed Chou Tien-chen in a taxing 86-minute match, saving three match points before prevailing 17-21, 24-22, 21-16. This semifinal win over a top-ranked opponent underscored the confidence and sharpness returning to Sen's game.
Throughout 2025, Sen showed flashes of top form, finishing runner-up at the Hong Kong Open and reaching the semifinals at the Macau Open and Japan Masters. His Australian Open victory adds a significant World Tour crown to his career, reinforcing his upward trajectory heading into the final phase of the 2025 season. Ranked 14th globally, Sen demonstrated skillful dominance in the final by quickly building leads and maintaining control across both games. With this win, Sen secured his sixth BWF World Tour title overall and confirmed himself as India's leading men's singles player.
