In a big blow to Mumbai, India batter Sarfaraz Khan has been hospitalized aehad of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy quarterfinal encounter.
Sarfaraz, who has been a key batter for them, was taken to the hospital on Wednesday (February 4) due to fever and looks set to miss out on the quarterfinal against Karnataka on February 6 at Mumbai's Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy.
Sarfaraz Khan has been on fire in this Ranji Trophy season, piling up 429 runs across nine innings at a stellar average of 53.62, highlighted by one century and a fifty. Shardul Thakur is back at the helm for Mumbai's quarterfinal showdown against Karnataka, with Yashasvi Jaiswal rejoining the squad for this high-stakes battle. Siddhesh Lad, who led Mumbai in Shardul's absence, would also be aiming
to score his 5th consecutive century as they play in the knockouts.
Sarfaraz Khan hospitalized with Fever
Sarfaraz has been a top player for Mumbai, and his potential absence is a big setback. MyKhel contacted Sarfaraz's father, who confirmed the hospitalization, but reiterated that it was a minor fever.
"I will go to the hospital today and check how he is now. He was admitted with a minor fever yesteday," said Sarfaraz's father Naushad Khan, to this website.
Although the player was admitted on Wednesday, his current recovery is likely to be around 3-4 days, thus effectively ruling him out of the key encounter. Sarfaraz may miss out, but Musheer Khan is expected to play in the match against Karnataka.
