Football icon Roberto Carlos has reassured fans about his health after sharing an update from a hospital bed, confirming that he is on the road to recovery following a heart-related medical procedure.
The former Brazil and Real Madrid star posted a smiling photo on social media, aiming to put an end to speculation surrounding his condition.
Amid reports suggesting that he had suffered a heart attack, the 52-year-old clarified the situation through a statement on Instagram.
"I did not suffer a heart attack. I am recovering well and looking forward to returning to full fitness and resuming my professional and personal commitments soon," Carlos wrote.
Earlier on Wednesday, media outlets in Spain reported that the legendary left-back had undergone surgery
in Brazil. These reports were later addressed by Hospital Vila Nova Star in SÃo Paulo, which confirmed that Carlos had been diagnosed with a heart obstruction earlier in the week.
According to the hospital's statement, Roberto Carlos was advised to undergo a coronary angioplasty on Monday. The procedure, which is minimally invasive, is commonly used to open blocked or narrowed arteries to restore normal blood flow to the heart. Carlos explained that the intervention had been planned in advance and was not the result of an emergency.
"I recently underwent a preventative medical procedure, planned in advance with my medical team. The procedure was successful, and I am well," he said.
The hospital further confirmed that Carlos is currently in a stable condition and remains under observation in the intensive care unit, following standard medical protocols.
Now serving as a global ambassador for Real Madrid, Carlos is widely regarded as one of the most influential full-backs in football history. Known for his explosive pace, powerful free-kicks, and attacking instincts, he redefined the role of a left-back during his illustrious career.
Carlos earned 125 international caps for Brazil and was a key member of squads that reached the 1998 FIFA World Cup final and lifted the trophy in 2002. His success on the international stage also included Copa America titles in 1997 and 1999, where he played an integral role in Brazil's dominance.
At club level, Carlos spent 11 highly successful years at Real Madrid, winning multiple domestic and international honours while becoming a fan favourite at the Santiago Bernabeu. His influence extended beyond trophies, as his style of play inspired a generation of defenders to adopt a more attacking approach.
As messages of support continue to pour in from fans and former teammates across the football world, Carlos' latest update has brought relief to many. With his condition stable and recovery progressing well, the Brazilian legend appears optimistic about returning to his professional duties in the near future.
