India's Test cricket dominance seems to have evaporated big time, and the latest blow has come from South Africa, who registered a clean sweep in the two-match Test series.
A hapless India surrendered at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, as they succumbed to a 408-run defeat, thus losing their second home series in 12 months.
Electing to bat first, the Proteas amassed a formidable 489 runs, with Senuran Muthusamy scoring a patient 109 and Marco Jansen narrowly missing out on a century with 93 runs. India's bowlers struggled to contain the visitors, although Kuldeep Yadav led with four wickets.
In response, India was dismissed for a modest 201 as Jansen spearheaded the bowling attack with six crucial wickets. South Africa added 260 for five declared
in their second innings, driven by Tristan Stubbs' fluent 94 and Tony de Zorzi's valuable 49. Setting an imposing target of 549, South Africa put immense pressure on the hosts.
India's second innings faltered early, losing wickets quickly against the disciplined South African attack led by spin duo Simon Harmer (6/37) and Keshav Maharaj. Ravindra Jadeja provided resistance with a top score of 54, but the rest of the batting order collapsed, resulting in a total of 140 all out. South Africa's bowlers exercised full control throughout the match, and the visitors' all-round performance ensured a dominant win on Indian soil, their first series victory in India since 2000. This victory strengthens South Africa's position in the World Test Championship standings while posing more challenges for India in the ongoing WTC cycle.
As the Indian team's Test woes continue, fans and ex-players have taken apart the boys on social media. Here is what the social media is saying-
Disappointing display of patience & technique from Indian batters. Need to get players in the test team who can play spin better.

2-0 sweep for SA Series win India after 25 years. Dare call them ‘chokers now! They’ve been superb with bat, ball and in the field. India’s surrender in this series has been abject, throwing up several questions that can’t be ducked or brushed aside

Gautam Gambhir has been under fire as he has become the first India head coach to lose two clean sweeps on home soil. And fans are extremely angry with Gambhir, calling for his sacking.
#IndVsSA Sack Gautam Gambhir. Bring in specialists who are pure Test players, and keep the Indian Pajama League T20 cricketers out of the Test squad. More importantly, the deliberate attempt to marginalize Test cricket—reducing it to a mere filler in the calendar—must be stopped…

"Gautam Gambhir must resign from his post. Gambhir, Go Back," writes a fan on social media.
It's time to sack Gautam Gambhir. Don't give him the option to resign out of courtesy.#IndianCricket@BCCI pic.twitter.com/XBC4dbXblI
