IND vs USA: Why are Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson not playing for India? Is Washington Sundar Fit?

India are up against USA in their first T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Indian team are being led by Suryakumar Yadav, and will bat first as USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first.

No Jasprit Bumrah for India

At the toss, Suryakumar Yadav said that Jasprit Bumrah won't play any part in this match.

"We were looking to bat first. It looks good here. I played a lot of cricket here. There's a wind around as well, so I don't think there'll be a lot of dew later on. Of course there'll be a little bit of pressure. We can't run away from that fact, but then new tournament, we want to play the same way how we've been playing in the last one or two years and continue the same thing. It's live before the game

starts and I'm sure when we start batting, it will be more wilder. We have Washington Sundar missing out, Sanju Samson missing out. Unfortunately Jasprit Bumrah is not well so Mohammed Siraj is playing," India captain Suryakumar Yadav said.

Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing for India Today?

Jasprit Bumrah is not playing as he is reportedly is struggling with a fever. The India pacer didn't practice on Friday and has now subsequently been ruled out after his viral fever. Although workload management was being tipped as a reason, India's premier pacer is missing out due to illness. Mohammed Siraj has the opportunity to lead the Indian pace attack in less than 24 hours since his inclusion to the squad.

Why is Sanju Samson not Playing?

Despite being feat, Sanju Samson has not given an opportunity due to his lack of form leading to the tournament. Sanju scored only 46 runs in five innings in the New Zealand series, and has now been leapfrogged by Ishan Kishan in the opening slot.

Is Washington Sundar Fit?

Washington Sundar is still not fit and is yet to join the squad. He is at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru and hasn't been given the nod by the medical team.
