He made headlines right from his T20I debut, smashing a six off Jofra Archer on the very first ball he faced at the international level. Today, he remains one of the best T20 batters in the world. Now, Suryakumar Yadav has added another milestone to his name-this time in domestic T20 cricket.
SKY has become Mumbai's highest run-scorer in the T20 format, surpassing a record even Rohit Sharma couldn't achieve. By overtaking Aditya Tare, Suryakumar now holds the top spot with 1,717 runs for Mumbai in domestic T20 cricket.
He reached the milestone in 71 matches, scoring at a strike rate of over 145, including nine half-centuries, with his highest score being 94. In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he recently scored 32 off 25 balls against Kerala.
Previously, Aditya Tare led the list with 1,713 runs in 68 matches, followed by Shreyas Iyer with 1,706 runs in 54 matches.
Suryakumar's international T20 record is equally impressive. So far, he has scored 2,754 runs in 95 matches, maintaining a strike rate above 164, with four centuries and 21 fifties to his name. He is also a key player for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, where he has amassed 4,311 runs in 166 matches.
Under his captaincy, India won the T20 Asia Cup. With the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in India next year, SKY is set to lead the national side once again.
According to the recently released schedule, India and Pakistan have been placed together in Group A, with the high-voltage clash set to take place in Colombo at the Premadasa Stadium, starting at 7 PM IST. Like the 2024 format, the upcoming T20 World Cup will feature four groups, with the top two teams from each qualifying for the Super Eight, followed by semifinals and the final.
If both India and Pakistan qualify from Group A and end up in the same Super Eight group, they may face each other again-and if both progress further, fans could witness another showdown in the semifinals or even the final.
