Mohamed Salah, a key player for Liverpool, is attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs for a potential move in January. The league's chief executive, Omar Mugharbel, confirmed this interest. Salah's
future at Liverpool has become uncertain after his candid post-match interview following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United. In the interview, he expressed frustration about being sidelined and suggested the club had let him down.
Salah's recent form has been underwhelming in the 2025-26 season. He has managed only eight goal contributions, comprising five goals and three assists, across 19 matches in all competitions. This is a stark contrast to his previous season's performance where he scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists, leading Europe’s top leagues in contributions and helping Liverpool secure their second Premier League title.
Saudi clubs have shown interest in Salah before. In 2023, Liverpool turned down a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad for him. Al-Hilal also expressed their desire to sign the forward. Mugharbel stated that while Salah is welcome in the Saudi League, negotiations are up to individual clubs. "For sure, Salah is one of them [a target]," he said via Asharq Al-Awsat.
Salah's situation at Liverpool has been tense recently. He was benched for three consecutive games at Elland Road and was not used as a substitute in two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches. This is unusual given his previous record of being an unused substitute only three times in his first 303 matchday squads with the Reds.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has left the door open for Salah's return to regular play. However, after being left out of the squad for their Champions League match against Inter Milan—which Liverpool lost 1-0—his future remains unclear. Slot’s team won without him on Tuesday, indicating possible changes in team dynamics.
Salah has been instrumental since joining Liverpool in 2017, making 420 appearances and scoring an impressive 250 goals along with providing 113 assists. Despite this track record, it remains uncertain if he will participate in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League game against Brighton this Saturday.
Adding to the uncertainty is Salah's commitment to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations next week. This could further complicate his availability for Liverpool during this critical period.
Salah's potential move to Saudi Arabia could mark a significant shift in his career trajectory. As negotiations unfold, fans and analysts alike are keenly watching how this situation develops over the coming months.
