Leeds United moved close to securing Premier League survival after a 3-1 win over Burnley at Elland Road. Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for Daniel Farke's team. Already relegated Burnley replied through Loum Tchaouna, but never threatened a serious recovery.
The result leaves Leeds United on 43 points and within reach of safety. Avoiding defeat has been enough for previous clubs on this total. Leeds can mathematically guarantee another Premier League season by beating Tottenham in their next fixture, keeping pressure away from the final weeks.
Stach marked a first start since an ankle injury, suffered on April 5, with a standout display. The midfielder opened the scoring after eight minutes, collecting Jaka Bijol's
pass in space and drilling into the bottom-right corner from distance. It continued a pattern of long-range finishing for Stach.
Four of Stach's five Premier League goals for Leeds have come from outside the penalty area. No player has more from long range in this season's competition, with Stach level with Antoine Semenyo and Dominik Szoboszlai. Stach also led the contest for shots and chance creation before being substituted.
Leeds United did not maintain early momentum before half-time, yet controlled the second period. Okafor doubled the advantage by steering in Jayden Bogle's low cross, created after Calvert-Lewin's backheel released the full-back. Calvert-Lewin struck again four minutes later, reacting fastest when Ao Tanaka's effort was pushed out by Martin Dubravka.
Burnley briefly threatened when Lucas Pires had a close-range finish ruled out for offside. Soon after, Tchaouna reduced the deficit on 71 minutes with a composed finish. That goal proved only a consolation for Burnley, who had already been relegated before arriving at Elland Road and struggled to create sustained pressure.
