Manchester United's manager, Ruben Amorim, acknowledged the team's need for improvement despite securing a 2-2 draw against Tottenham. Matthijs de Ligt's late goal salvaged a point for United after Tottenham had
taken the lead with goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison. Bryan Mbeumo initially put United ahead in the first half, but Amorim expressed disappointment as they missed out on a win.
Amorim noted that United struggled to capitalise on their chances, managing only two shots on target. He believed the team should have been more aggressive and aware of the game's dynamics. "We were comfortable in the game, but I think we should do better," he stated. The manager emphasised the importance of seizing opportunities and adapting to changing match conditions.
Injuries further complicated United's efforts, forcing key players like Harry Maguire and Casemiro to leave the field. Despite these setbacks, Amorim praised his team's resilience in securing a point. "With everything that happened. it's a point," he said. He highlighted the importance of not losing when victory seems elusive.
Benjamin Sesko's injury added to United's woes as he limped off towards the end of the match, leaving them with 10 men. Amorim remained cautious about Sesko's condition, stating, "We think he has a problem, but let's see. " The injuries underscored the challenges facing United as they strive for consistency.
United extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five games, their longest since February 2024. However, Amorim stressed that there is still much work to be done. "I know sometimes the results show people that we are improving: we are improving, but we have a lot to do," he remarked.
Amorim urged his team to be more ruthless in finishing off opponents and capitalising on opportunities. His comments reflected a desire for growth and adaptation within the squad. The manager recognised that while progress is being made, there remains significant room for development.
The draw marked an unusual pattern for United as they became the first team since Manchester City in 2012 to score first, fall behind, and then lose consecutive Premier League matches. This statistic highlighted both their potential and areas needing improvement.
As Manchester United continues its campaign, Amorim's focus remains on building a stronger team capable of consistently securing victories. His insights underscore the challenges faced by top-flight teams striving for success amidst injuries and competitive pressures.
