Lionel Messi expressed his longing to return to Barcelona's iconic Spotify Camp Nou, sharing heartfelt words about the club where he spent two decades of his career.
The Inter Miami captain visited the
newly renovated stadium on Sunday - his first time there since his 2021 departure - before joining Argentina ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.
Messi, who helped propel Inter Miami into the next round of the MLS playoffs just a day earlier, posted photos from his visit and reflected on his emotional connection to the club.
"Last night, I returned to a place that I miss with all my heart," Messi wrote on social media Monday.
"It's a place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel like the happiest person in the world a thousand times over. I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do," he added.
The visit marked a symbolic homecoming for Messi, who left Barcelona under financial constraints in 2021 after scoring a record 672 goals in 778 appearances. While he has since continued his career in MLS with Inter Miami, his enduring bond with Barca and its fans remains as strong as ever.
Messi recently scored twice and provided two assists, directly contributing to all four goals in Miami's emphatic win, which marked the club's first-ever advancement past the opening round of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Argentine is with his national team and will be playing against Angola in a friendly on Friday.
