Leicester City face a tense finish to the Championship season after losing an appeal against a six-point deduction, leaving the club 22nd with 41 points and staring at the possibility of consecutive relegations from the Premier League and Championship.
The club sit in the final relegation place, one point behind Portsmouth and ahead of 23rd-placed Oxford United only on goal difference, with five fixtures left to play under head coach Gary Rowett, who arrived in February on a short-term agreement.
The English Football League confirmed in February that Leicester City had been penalised six points for breaching financial regulations, after the club were charged in May for breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules covering the three-year
cycle to June 2024.
The sanction, which now stands after appeal, relates to combined financial oversight by both competitions, as Leicester City’s accounts across Premier League and Championship participation were assessed under profit and sustainability criteria designed to limit losses and maintain competitive balance.

Leicester City stated that the ruling from the independent Appeal Board ends the legal process and that the club accepts the six-point deduction, stressing that attention has now moved fully to on-pitch performance in the closing weeks.
"With the matter now at an end and five games of the season remaining, everyone at the club is fully focused on the matches in front of us and on shaping the outcome of our season through our results on the pitch," the Foxes said in a club statement.
"We know this has been a challenging period, and we thank our supporters for the backing they continue to give the team. The responsibility now is to ensure these remaining games are approached with the focus and intent our current situation demands. "

The Premier League had also appealed against Leicester City’s six-point deduction, seeking a stronger punishment for the financial breach, but the appeal board dismissed that case as well, meaning the original penalty now stands as the final decision.
Rowett and the squad now enter the decisive run of five games, beginning with Swansea City’s visit to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, knowing that every result will be crucial in determining whether Leicester preserve Championship status or suffer another relegation.
