MI vs RCB: The clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium turned into more than just a battle for crucial playoff points. The high-intensity encounter also marked a landmark moment in the Indian Premier League 2026, as two of India's biggest stars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, achieved significant milestones, adding another historic chapter to their illustrious careers.
Rohit & Virat Matches MSD's Record
Match 54 turned into a landmark occasion as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepped onto the field to register their 278th appearances in the Indian Premier League. In doing so, the two stalwarts drew level with MS Dhoni for the most matches played in IPL history. While Dhoni remains part of the Chennai
Super Kings squad this season, he is yet to feature, allowing the former India captains to match his long-standing record.
Rohit reached the milestone across stints with the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, whereas Kohli stands out as the only player to achieve the feat while representing a single franchise, having been with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru since the league began in 2008.
Bhuvi's Sensational Performance Against MI
Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered a sensational opening spell to put the Royal Challengers Bengaluru firmly in control against the Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. The experienced pacer returned figures of 4 for 23, ripping through the Mumbai top order and restricting them to 166/7 in 20 overs.
Opting to bowl first, RCB made an immediate impact as Bhuvneshwar struck in the opening over, dismissing Ryan Rickelton cheaply. He then removed Rohit Sharma after a brief cameo and sent back skipper Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck off successive deliveries, leaving Mumbai reeling at 28/3 inside three overs.
A recovery effort was led by Naman Dhir (47) and Tilak Varma, who stitched together a crucial partnership to steady the innings. While Dhir played aggressively before falling to Rasikh Salam Dar, Tilak held one end firm, bringing up a composed 57 off 42 balls.
However, RCB's bowlers regained control in the death overs. Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam executed their plans perfectly, conceding no boundaries in the final two overs while removing key batters to halt Mumbai's progress. In the end, the MI ended the innings at 167.
