Indonesia fast bowler Gede Priandana etched his name into cricket record books by becoming the first bowler to take five wickets in a single over in an international T20 match, powering his side to a commanding
60-run victory over Cambodia in the opening T20I at the Udayana Cricket Ground.
The 28-year-old right-arm quick achieved the extraordinary feat in the 16th over of Cambodia's chase of 168, dismantling their middle and lower order in dramatic fashion.
Cambodia, who were reasonably placed at 106 for 5 after 15 overs, collapsed to 107 all out in just 16 overs, conceding only one run - a wide - in Priandana's devastating over.
Priandana struck with a hat-trick off the first three deliveries, dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoeun Rathanak. After a dot ball, he claimed Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak off the next two legal deliveries to complete the five-wicket over.
While five wickets in an over had previously been recorded twice in men's domestic T20 cricket, Priandana's spell marks the first instance in international cricket.
Who are the other bowlers to pick 5 wickets in an Over?
Bangladesh's Al-Amin Hossain in 2013 and India's Abhimanyu Mithun in 2019 are the two bowlers who have tasted a fifer in an over.
Indonesia's total of 167 for 5 was built around an unbeaten 110 from 68 balls by wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, who smashed eight fours and six sixes. Priandana had earlier contributed a quick 6 runs opening the innings.
The victory gives Indonesia a 1-0 lead in the multi-format series against Cambodia. The second T20I is scheduled for later this week.
