India have surged back to the top of the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings after sealing a convincing series victory over Zimbabwe in the three-match contest in Harare.
The clinical performance against the hosts ended a difficult recent run that had seen them slip from pole position following losses in Ireland and a heavy series defeat in England.
The Men in Blue, under new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, started the tour strongly by restricting Zimbabwe to 125 for 7 in the first T20I and chasing the target in just 13.2 overs for a seven-wicket win. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starred with a blistering maiden international half-century off just 19 balls, while returning pacer Mayank Yadav claimed two early wickets. Iyer himself contributed an unbeaten
28 as India ended a lengthy winless streak in the format.
Building on that momentum, India dominated the subsequent matches to secure the series. Strong contributions from the batting order, including Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, combined with disciplined bowling displays ensured Zimbabwe could not stage a fightback at the Harare Sports Club. The results provided a much-needed boost after India's title defence success earlier in the year and the subsequent dip in form.
With England previously edged ahead on rating points after their home dominance, India's series triumph against Zimbabwe has restored them to the summit. Although India currently claim the top spot, their rating is identical as England with 268, but India have higher points (16088) compared to England (10186).
Iyer described the victory as an important step in building team confidence and adapting to conditions. Young players stepped up impressively, signalling a bright future for the side as they look ahead to upcoming assignments. Zimbabwe, despite flashes of resistance from players like Wessly Madhevere, struggled to match India's depth and intensity across the series.
The result reaffirms India's status as one of the premier forces in T20 cricket following their back-to-back World Cup successes.
