Indian athletics has another name to celebrate in the men's javelin throw as Yash Vir Singh announced himself on the big stage by winning the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Adding another chapter to India's growing success in the event, Yash Vir stunned the world with his final throw, which propelled him to a medal spot.
Who is Yash Vir Singh?
Born on October 22, 2001, Yash Vir Singh hails from Rajasthan and emerged as one of India's brightest javelin prospects at the junior level. He first caught the athletics fraternity's attention after breaking Neeraj Chopra's meet record at the Indian U20 Federation Cup and later crossed the coveted 80-metre mark as a teenager.
Steady Rise in national circuit
Yash has consistently featured among India's leading javelin throwers over the
last few seasons. Yash Vir first caught national attention by breaking Neeraj Chopra's meet record at the Indian U-20 Federation Cup, highlighting his immense potential as a junior athlete.
Some of his notable achievements include winning the Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025 in Chennai. He won the G Arzumanov Memorial Meet in Uzbekistan in 2025 and represented India at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Road to the Commonwealth Games podium
At the Commonwealth Games 2026, Yash Vir Singh safely negotiated a tricky qualification round in Glasgow alongside fellow Indians Neeraj Chopra and Rohit Yadav, ensuring three Indian javelin throwers reached the final.
In the final, the youngster delivered under pressure to clinch the bronze medal, earning one of the biggest achievements of his career and contributing to India's medal haul in athletics. He was trailing in the 5th position till the last throw, and then took the numbers apart.

A personal best throw of 85.41 metres was enough for the Indian athlete, whose eyes lit up after the release, and then the cheer reverberated across the Glasgow stadium as he ensured a medal in his CWG debut.
Still only 24 years old, Yash Vir Singh has established himself as one of India's most promising javelin throwers. With an 82.57m personal best, international experience, and now a Commonwealth Games bronze medal, he is well placed to challenge for more medals at major global events in the coming years.
Neeraj Chopra clinches Silver in all Sub-Continent Podium
It was a podium dominated by the sub-continent athletes. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage struck gold with a championship-winning effort of 89.75m.
India's Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra claimed the silver medal with a season-best 85.83m, while Yash Vir produced a personal best of 85.41m to secure bronze.
