The battle for overall control at the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 tightened on Stage Three, as Cameron Nicholas Scott sprinted to victory while Luke Mudgway protected the Yellow Jersey. The stage result
reshaped several jersey standings, yet the time gaps in the general classification stayed narrow, keeping the contest finely balanced.
Scott, riding for Li Ning Star, China, claimed the win at Vidya Pratishthan, Pencil Chowk in Baramati after 03:04:13 of racing. The stage ended in a high-speed sprint after a gruelling day through the Western Ghats Gateway, with riders stretched by repeated attacks and testing crosswinds over exposed sections.
In the dash for the line, Scott edged out Georgios Bouglas of Burgos Burpellet BH, Spain, who shared the same time of 03:04:13 and had spent long spells leading. Timothy Dupont of Tartelett-Isorex, Belgium, also finishing in 03:04:13, secured third place, while Zeb Kyffin of Terengganu Cycling Team, Malaysia, crossed just behind.
Clement Alleno of Burgos Burpellet BH, Spain, also recorded 03:04:13 and finished close to the front group, capping the day by taking over the King of the Mountains classification and earning the Polka Dot Jersey. Stage One and Stage Two winner Luke Mudgway, also timed at 03:04:13, came in sixth after losing contact in the sharpest surge.
Mudgway's sixth place did not damage the wider objective, as the rider retained the Yellow Jersey as overall general classification leader and also claimed the Green Jersey for Best Sprinter. The result showed careful damage control from Mudgway, who limited losses against specialist sprinters on a demanding profile.
After three stages, Mudgway's total time stands at 07:36:10. That leaves a slim margin of 14 seconds over Carter Alan Bettles of Roojai Insurance Winspace, Thailand. Yorben Lauryssen of Tartelett-Isorex, Belgium, remains very close in third, only 17 seconds down, ensuring the general classification remains tightly contested.
Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 Stage 3: Route, conditions and race dynamics
The stage had begun earlier from the Saswad Municipal Council at Chandan Tekadi at 12:30 pm, with Ajit Pawar, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune, performing the ceremonial flag-off. Riders then headed toward Baramati, facing early climbs that quickly split the bunch and exposed weaknesses in any rider struggling with tempo.
The opening ascents stretched the peloton into single file, as rival teams kept attacking and reduced chances for recovery. After a brief flatter section, the route rose again, while crosswinds over open terrain increased the difficulty. Those conditions ensured that energy expenditure was high long before the finishing circuits and final sprint into Pencil Chowk.
Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 Stage 3: Cameron Scott reaction and race experience
Reflecting on the effort, Cameron Scott underlined how demanding the stage felt from inside the race. "I think it was a lot harder than people expected," he said. "The first two climbs were quite tough and the pace really stayed on over the top. There was lots of attacks from the other teams and the race didn't really stop until we got through the next town and onto the onto the straight roads, but even then it was a little bit crosswind, so it was actually quite a tough day. "
Scott also pointed to one specific feature that shaped the riders' experience over the climbs. "The roads over the top of the climb," he said. "They were really twisty and I had a lot of fun actually. Lots of corners and just high-speed single file. "
Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 Stage 3: Other jersey leaders and Indian interest
The Orange Jersey for Best Asian Rider stayed with Jambaljamts Sainbayar of Burgos Burpellet BH, whose steady performances on varied terrain have kept that classification under control. Dutch rider Viego Tijssen of Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam, Netherlands, again secured the White Jersey as the leading U-23 competitor after another consistent display.
There was also a change in the Indian-focused classification. Harshveer Singh Sekhon of the Indian National Team reclaimed the Blue Jersey by emerging as India's Leading Performer on the stage. Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 Stage 3: Outlook for Stage Four and overall race
With three stages completed, attention now shifts to Stage Four, the Pune Pride Loop, which will decide the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour. The final stage covers 95 kilometres with 578 metres of elevation, running through modern city avenues and heritage locations, including Shaniwar Wada, and is expected to deliver another fast finale.
Technical sections on the Pune Pride Loop and a likely high-speed sprint provide one last chance for shifts in the standings. The Yellow Jersey remains on Luke Mudgway's shoulders, yet with gaps measured in seconds, the closing stage still leaves space for tactical moves and late changes in the final classification.
