Chelsea closed their Women’s Super League season with a 1-0 home win over Manchester United, as Sam Kerr scored in a farewell appearance at Stamford Bridge. The Australian forward, whose contract is expiring, extended a club record to 65 WSL goals and secured third place for Sonia Bompastor’s side.
Kerr has missed long spells through injury this season, yet the forward finishes the league campaign in strong attacking rhythm. Across the last four WSL matches, Kerr has delivered six goal contributions, with five goals and one assist, underlining consistent output despite reduced minutes.
The 32-year-old produced the decisive moment on 34 minutes. Lauren James delivered a precise cross from the right and Kerr met the ball first time, sending a controlled
volley past Phallon Tullis-Joyce. The strike gave Chelsea a narrow lead that Manchester United were unable to overturn.
United responded with greater pressure after the interval, as Marc Skinner’s team pushed Chelsea deeper. Ellen Wangerheim came closest to levelling when a second-half effort struck the post. Chelsea held firm, though, and Kerr left the field in stoppage time to a standing ovation from the Stamford Bridge crowd.

Kerr’s goal against Manchester United was the forward’s eighth in WSL meetings with the club, more than any other player has scored versus the Red Devils. That finish also meant Kerr became the seventh footballer to score in at least 50 WSL games, joining an elite group of consistent league performers.
The Chelsea forward is only the third non-British player to reach that 50-game scoring landmark. Vivianne Miedema, with 67 such matches, and Khadija Shaw, with 52, are the others. Kerr’s exit therefore ends a productive Chelsea spell, highlighted by decisive goals and sustained output in key Women’s Super League fixtures.
