Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is optimistic about Kimi Antonelli's future following his impressive performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Antonelli secured second place in both the sprint race and the main
event, marking his second podium of the season. In his debut year as Mercedes' second-seat driver, Antonelli currently ranks seventh in the Drivers' Championship with three races left.
Wolff praised Antonelli's ability to fend off Max Verstappen during the race, highlighting the Italian's strong execution on a track unfamiliar to him. "I think all weekend he was strong, from the get-go. It's good to see," Wolff stated. He noted that lower expectations and pressure might have contributed to Antonelli's flawless performance.
Despite a mid-season dip in form, Wolff never doubted Antonelli's potential to regain his momentum. "I was always confident he's going to get the necessary grip," Wolff remarked. He confirmed that Antonelli will remain with Mercedes next year, emphasizing that mastering tyre management is crucial with these complex cars.
The young driver's ability to hold off Verstappen on newer and softer tyres impressed Wolff. "Being able to fend off Max [who] on a newer and softer tyre, boy, that was really strong and a testament to what's to come," he said. Wolff believes this resilience signals Antonelli's growth from a promising talent into a formidable competitor.

Wolff acknowledged the additional pressure from media attention after Antonelli's pole position in Miami and strong showing in Montreal. "The Italians talked about the legend Kimi Antonelli after Montreal, after the Miami pole, and that's an additional pressure," he explained. Wolff aims to manage expectations while appreciating Antonelli's achievements.
With three races remaining this season, Mercedes is keenly observing how Antonelli continues to develop under pressure. His recent performances suggest a promising trajectory for both him and the team as they look towards future successes on the track.
